MUDIK LEBARAN, What is mudik?

What is mudik? Mudik is going home. It is a tradition of almost all people in Indonesia before Eid fitr or Lebaran day. Those who work and live in another city will try to return to their hometown to meet or visit family and to celebrate lebaran. They will often take presents or money for family and children. Lebaran is special holy day for moslem people after the end of the fasting month.


Jakarta is the city most affected by the phenomenon of mudik. As Lebaran draws closer and millions of Jakarta residents prepare for mudik. They don’t mind paying extra for ticket or being stuck in traffic as long as they can mudik. But this is the one time of the year when Jakarta is quiet and has no traffic jams.

Tips for mudik ;

1.Make sure your are healthy if you driving by yourself

2.Make a list of what you need for a long trip.

3.Check your car / motorbike ( Tires, change the oil, brake, lamp, spare tire )


4.Check the ticket if you mudik by bus, train or ship

5.Don’t wear excessive jewelry and just cash to reduce the risk of crime

6.Bring some medicine , foods and drinks

7.Prepare your mobile phone, make sure it is charged and and take emergency numbers ( police, hospital, the nearest car motorbike service station by the road going home, family phone number)

8.Bring map / road map

9.Before leaving home, turn off all electricity and just leave on outside lights.

10.Don’t forget to pray before mudik heheh..
